What to bring and check

  • Carry your own travel accessories kit to ensure a stress free holiday.

Day 1Arrive Guwahati & Transfer to Kaziranga (Assam)

  • Morning/Afternoon: Arrive at Guwahati Airport (GAU). Our Eastern Safari representative will extend a warm welcome and assist with your transfer to Kaziranga National Park (approx. 5-6 hours).
  • Afternoon (Kaziranga Arrival): Check into your wildlife resort/hotel. Relax amidst the tranquil surroundings, preparing for your exciting wildlife adventures.
  • Evening: Enjoy the peaceful ambiance of the national park area, perhaps with a short nature walk around the resort.
  • Overnight: Resort/Hotel in Kaziranga.

Day 2Kaziranga National Park - Wildlife Safari Adventures (Assam)

  • Morning (Elephant Safari): Begin your day with an exhilarating Elephant Safari in the Western or Central Range of Kaziranga (pre-booking essential). This offers an incredible opportunity to get up close with the endangered One-Horned Indian Rhinoceros, wild elephants, swamp deer, and various bird species.
  • Late Morning: Return to the resort for breakfast.
  • Afternoon (Jeep Safari): Embark on a thrilling Jeep Safari in a different range (e.g., Eastern or Central Range) to explore diverse habitats and spot more wildlife, including wild buffaloes, numerous migratory birds, and if luck favors you, the elusive Royal Bengal Tiger.
  • Evening: Leisure time to relax or enjoy the resort amenities.
  • Overnight: Resort/Hotel in Kaziranga.

Day 3Kaziranga – Dimapur – Kohima (Nagaland)

  • Morning: After breakfast, begin your journey from Kaziranga towards Kohima, the capital city of Nagaland (approx. 6-7 hours). You’ll pass through Dimapur, the commercial hub and main entry point to Nagaland.
  • Afternoon (Kohima Arrival & Exploration): Arrive in Kohima and check into your hotel. We’ll visit the poignant Kohima War Cemetery, a beautifully maintained memorial to the soldiers of World War II, offering serene views and a sense of history.
  • Evening: Experience the unique charm of Kohima.
  • Overnight: Hotel in Kohima.

Day 4Kohima - Khonoma & Tribal Insights (Nagaland)

  • Full Day (Tribal Heritage & Scenic Views): Today, we delve deeper into Nagaland’s rich tribal heritage.
    • Visit Khonoma Village, India’s first green village, known for its strong conservation ethos and unique terraced farming system. Learn about its historical significance and sustainable practices.
    • Explore Kisama Heritage Village, the permanent venue for the famous Hornbill Festival. Even outside the festival period, it offers a fascinating insight into traditional Naga tribal architecture and cultural displays.
    • If time permits, visit the Nagaland State Museum (if open) to understand the diverse Naga tribal cultures through artifacts and exhibits.
  • Evening: Leisure time.
  • Overnight: Hotel in Kohima.

Day 5Kohima – Jorhat (Assam)

  • Morning: Post-breakfast, drive from Kohima back into Assam, heading towards Jorhat (approx. 6-7 hours). Jorhat is renowned for its tea estates and serves as the gateway to Majuli.
  • Afternoon (Jorhat Arrival): Arrive in Jorhat and check into your hotel.
  • Evening: Relax or take a stroll around the local market.
  • Overnight: Hotel in Jorhat.

Day 6Jorhat – Majuli

Full Day (Majuli Excursion): An early start today to visit the serene Majuli, the world’s largest river island. We’ll drive to Nimati Ghat (approx. 30 mins) and take a captivating ferry ride across the mighty Brahmaputra River (approx. 1-1.5 hours ferry ride).

Day 7Majuli – Jorhat (Assam)

  • Majuli Exploration: On the island, we’ll immerse ourselves in its unique culture. Visit various Satras (Vaishnavite Monasteries), cultural and religious institutions, like Auniati Satra, Garamur Satra, and Samaguri Satra (famous for traditional mask making). We’ll also observe the distinct lifestyle of the Mising tribal community.
  • Late Afternoon: Take the ferry back to Nimati Ghat and drive to your hotel in Jorhat.
  • Overnight: Hotel in Jorhat.

Day 8Jorhat – Guwahati (Assam)

  • Morning: After breakfast, embark on your return journey to Guwahati (approx. 7-8 hours). This will be a significant travel day, offering views of Assam’s rural landscapes.
  • Afternoon (Guwahati Arrival): Arrive in Guwahati and check into your hotel.
  • Evening: Relax and prepare for your departure the next day. You might opt for a farewell dinner in the city.
  • Overnight: Hotel in Guwahati.

Day 9Guwahati – Departure

  • Morning: Post-breakfast, depending on your flight schedule, our representative will transfer you to Guwahati Airport (GAU) for your onward journey.

  • Inner Line Permit (ILP) / Protected Area Permit (PAP): An ILP is mandatory for Indian citizens to enter Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland. Foreign nationals require a Protected Area Permit (PAP) for these states. Please ensure you have these arranged well in advance of your trip.   • Road Conditions & Pace: This itinerary is comprehensive and covers a vast region. Roads in the Northeast, especially in hilly and remote areas, can be challenging. Be prepared for long travel days and potentially bumpy rides. The pace is designed to cover key highlights; some days are demanding.

  • Best Time to Visit: October to April is generally considered the best time for this comprehensive tour, offering pleasant weather, clear skies, and optimal wildlife viewing opportunities.

  • Connectivity: Mobile network coverage can be intermittent in very remote areas of Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.
