Itinerary

Day 1Arrive Guwahati & Transfer to Tezpur (Assam)

  • Morning/Afternoon: Arrive at Guwahati Airport (GAU). Our Eastern Safari representative will extend a warm welcome and assist with your immediate transfer to Tezpur (approx. 4-5 hours).
  • Afternoon (Tezpur Exploration): Check into your hotel. If time permits, we’ll visit Agnigarh Hill, a historical site offering panoramic views of the Brahmaputra River, and the serene Chitralekha Udyan (Cole Park).
  • Evening: Enjoy a relaxing evening in Tezpur, often called the “City of Eternal Romance.”
  • Overnight: Hotel in Tezpur.

Day 2Tezpur to Dirang - Gateway to Arunachal (Arunachal Pradesh)

  • Morning: Post-breakfast, begin your scenic drive to Dirang (approx. 5-6 hours). You will enter Arunachal Pradesh at Bhalukpong, where your Inner Line Permit (ILP) / Protected Area Permit (PAP) will be checked. Witness the gradual transformation from plains to rolling hills.
  • Afternoon (Dirang Exploration): Arrive in Dirang, a charming valley town. Check into your hotel. We’ll explore the historic Dirang Dzong (Fort), a 17th-century Monpa fort, and visit the peaceful Thubsung Dhargyeling Monastery.
  • Evening: Acclimatize to the higher altitude.
  • Overnight: Hotel/Homestay in Dirang.

Day 3Dirang – Tawang (Arunachal Pradesh)

Post breakfast we will start our onward journey for Tawang. We will make 2 stops. We
will reach Tawang by evening.
* Nuranang Falls
* Sela Lake, situated at an elevation of 4170 m. It is a breath taking experience. The
lake remains frozen throughout the winter.
Sela pass is situated at about 13,700 feet above MSL and is known to be home to more
than 101 lakes. Each of these lakes are considered very religious by the Buddhist
community. One of these 101 lakes is the decently large Sela Lake that is located right
on the top of Sela Pass. Sela pass is also an important location on the India-China
border and hence one can find large Indian army camps and soldiers nearby.
Sela Pass is a mountain pass which you will need to cross before reaching Tawang.
This place remains mostly covered in snow and is usually too windy. A breath taking
place in Arunachal Pradesh is a high altitude mountain pass Se-La, with La denoting
Pass is a must visit attraction.

Day 4Tawang

Post breakfast we will be exploring Tawang. The major attractions for today are:
Tawang Monastery for eternal peace (The Monastery is the second biggest and
oldest in Asia and is known as the Tawang Ganden Namgyal Lhatse i.e., the celestial
paradise of divine site chosen by the horse was founded by Merag Lodroe Gyamtso in
the year 1680-81.),
The Giant Buddha Statue, Tawang War Memorial and the Tawang local market.
Explore the whole Tawang and try the ethnic local cuisines

Day 5Tawang - Bum La Pass Excursion (Arunachal Pradesh)

  • Full Day (Tawang & Bum La Excursion): Today, we explore the high-altitude wonders around Tawang. Subject to road conditions and an additional permit (which we will assist with), we’ll drive to Bum La Pass (approx. 15,200 ft), the Indo-China border, offering raw, spectacular mountain scenery and historical significance. We’ll also visit Pankang Teng Tso Lake (PT Tso Lake) and the majestic Nuranang Falls (Jang Waterfall).
  • Afternoon: Return to Tawang.
  • Evening: Explore the local market, perhaps picking up some local handicrafts.
  • Overnight: Hotel in Tawang.

Day 6Tawang – Bomdila (Arunachal Pradesh)

  • Morning: Post-breakfast, begin your scenic drive back from Tawang to Bomdila (approx. 6-7 hours), once again crossing the Sela Pass.
  • Afternoon (Bomdila Exploration): Check into your hotel. We’ll revisit the Bomdila Monastery for its peaceful ambiance and panoramic views, and explore the Craft Centre and Ethnographic Museum to learn about local arts.
  • Evening: Leisure time in Bomdila.
  • Overnight: Hotel in Bomdila.

Day 7Bomdila – Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh)

  • Morning: After breakfast, embark on a significant drive from Bomdila to Itanagar, the capital city of Arunachal Pradesh (approx. 7-8 hours).
  • Afternoon (Itanagar Arrival & Exploration): Arrive in Itanagar and check into your hotel. We’ll visit the historical Ita Fort, which lends its name to the city, and the Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum, offering insights into the state’s tribal heritage.
  • Evening: Relax and unwind.
  • Overnight: Hotel in Itanagar.

Day 8 Itanagar – Ziro – Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh)

  • Full Day (Ziro Excursion): Prepare for a long but rewarding day trip! We’ll drive from Itanagar to Ziro Valley (approx. 3-4 hours one way), a UNESCO World Heritage Tentative Site, famous for its unique Apatani tribe and picturesque rice fields.
  • Ziro Exploration: In Ziro, we’ll explore Apatani villages like Hong, Hija, and Hari, interacting with the friendly locals and learning about their sustainable farming practices and distinct traditions. We’ll also visit the Tarin Fish Farm and enjoy the serene landscapes.
  • Late Afternoon/Evening: Drive back to Itanagar.
  • Overnight: Hotel in Itanagar.

Day 9Itanagar – Majuli (Assam)

  • Morning: Post-breakfast, begin your journey from Itanagar to Majuli (approx. 7-8 hours). This drive will take you out of the hills of Arunachal and into the lush plains of Assam.
  • Afternoon (Majuli Arrival): Arrive in Majuli, the ideal base for exploring Majuli. Check into your hotel.
  • Evening: Relax or explore the local market.
  • Overnight: Hotel in Majuli.

Day 10Majuli – Jorhat (Assam)

  • Full Day (Majuli Excursion): Explore the world’s largest river island. 
  • Majuli Exploration: On the island, we’ll visit several Satras (Vaishnavite Monasteries), cultural and religious institutions, like Auniati Satra, Garamur Satra, and Samaguri Satra (famous for traditional mask making). We’ll also observe the unique tribal culture and lifestyle of the Mising community.
  • Late Afternoon: Ferry back to Nimati Ghat and drive to your hotel in Jorhat.
  • Overnight: Hotel in Jorhat.

Day 11Jorhat – Kohima (Nagaland)

  • Morning: After breakfast, we drive from Jorhat to Kohima, the capital city of Nagaland (approx. 6-7 hours).
  • Afternoon (Kohima Arrival & Exploration): Arrive in Kohima and check into your hotel. We’ll visit the poignant Kohima War Cemetery, a beautifully maintained memorial to the soldiers of World War II.
  • Evening: Experience the unique charm of Kohima.

Day 12Kohima – Khonoma – Kisama – Kohima (Nagaland)

Full Day (Tribal Heritage & Scenic Views): Today, we delve deeper into Nagaland’s rich tribal heritage.

  • Visit Khonoma Village, India’s first green village, known for its strong conservation efforts and unique terraced farming system.
  • Explore Kisama Heritage Village, the permanent venue for the Hornbill Festival (if not during the festival, it still offers insights into Naga tribal architecture and cultural displays).

Day 13Kohima – Kaziranga National Park (Assam)

Day 14Kaziranga National Park - Wildlife Safari Adventures (Assam)

Day 16Shillong - Cherrapunjee

Day 17Cherrapunjee

Today, you can either choose to visit the following places
● Nohsngithiang Falls (Seven sisters falls).
● Eco Park – Missing Falls.
● Guided walk in a thousand-year-old sacred grove. [Mawphlang Sacred Grove]
● The weekly market in Cherrapunjee is quite interesting but the market day
changes every week. If it is a market day while you are there, a visit to the market.

You can go on a trek to the double-decker living root bridges of Nongriat. It’s an experience like no other. If you enjoy swimming, do not forget to bring your swim-wear with you, you will need them when you find the kid inside you unable to hold back from jumping in the turquoise blue natural pools.

Day 18Cherrapunjee - Dawki - Shillong

  • After breakfast, depart for Dawki, a small town famous for its crystal-clear Umngot River.
  • Enjoy a boat ride on the Umngot River, admiring the transparent waters and the picturesque surroundings.
  • Visit Mawlynnong, often referred to as the cleanest village in Asia, and explore its charming streets lined with traditional Khasi houses.
  • Witness the living root bridges of Mawlynnong, marvels of bio-engineering crafted by the local Khasi tribes.
  • Return to Shillong in the evening and spend your last night in Meghalaya reminiscing about your memorable journey.

Day 19 Shillong – Guwahati (Assam)

  • Morning: After a leisurely breakfast, drive from Shillong back to Guwahati (approx. 3-4 hours).
