This 9-day, 8-night tour offers a captivating journey through the diverse landscapes and cultures of India’s Northeast, beginning in Guwahati.

The adventure kicks off in the charming hills of Shillong, Meghalaya, where you’ll spend two nights exploring its waterfalls, lakes, and vibrant bazaars, often called the “Scotland of the East.”

From Shillong, the tour transitions to Tezpur in Assam for a night, an ancient city steeped in romance and history.

The heart of the journey then leads into Arunachal Pradesh. You’ll spend a night in Dirang, a serene valley town, before ascending to the spiritual and breathtaking Tawang for two nights. Here, you’ll marvel at the iconic Sela Pass, the magnificent Tawang Monastery (the world’s second-largest), and pristine high-altitude lakes and waterfalls.

The descent from Tawang brings you to Bomdila for a night, offering stunning panoramic views and insights into local culture.

Finally, the tour concludes with a return drive from Bomdila to Guwahati, providing a comprehensive experience of both the lush green hills of Meghalaya and the majestic, monastic landscapes of Arunachal Pradesh.

Itinerary

Day 1Guwahati - Shillong

  • Depart from Guwahati early in the morning and embark on a scenic drive to Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya.
  • En route, stop at Umiam Lake, also known as Barapani Lake, for breathtaking views and photo opportunities.
  • Upon reaching Shillong, check into your hotel and spend the evening exploring the local markets and trying out delicious Khasi cuisine.
  • Overnight stay in Shillong.

Day 2Shillong - Cherrapunjee

  • Check out from your hotel in Shillong and drive to Cherrapunji, renowned as one of the wettest places on earth.
  • En route, visit the Elephant Falls, a picturesque waterfall cascading amidst verdant greenery.
  • Explore Mawsmai Cave, a natural limestone cave known for its impressive stalactite and stalagmite formations.
  • Visit the Nohkalikai Falls, the tallest plunge waterfall in India, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
  • Check into your hotel in Cherrapunji and spend the evening at leisure, enjoying the tranquil ambiance.
  • Overnight stay in Cherrapunji.

Day 3Cherrapunjee

Today, you can either choose to visit the following places
● Nohsngithiang Falls (Seven sisters falls).
● Eco Park – Missing Falls.
● Guided walk in a thousand-year-old sacred grove. [Mawphlang Sacred Grove]
● The weekly market in Cherrapunjee is quite interesting but the market day
changes every week. If it is a market day while you are there, a visit to the market.

You can go on a trek to the double-decker living root bridges of Nongriat. It’s an experience like no other. If you enjoy swimming, do not forget to bring your swim-wear with you, you will need them when you find the kid inside you unable to hold back from jumping in the turquoise blue natural pools.

Day 4Cherrapunjee - Tezpur

  • Morning (Scenic Drive): After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive from Cherrapunjee to Tezpur (approx. 6-7 hours). This journey will take you from the hills of Meghalaya back into the plains of Assam.
  • Afternoon (Tezpur Exploration): Arrive in Tezpur and check into your hotel. In the afternoon, explore some of Tezpur’s historical and scenic spots:
    • Agnigarh Hill: A mythological fortress with a beautiful hill garden and panoramic views of the Brahmaputra River.
    • Chitralekha Udyan (Cole Park): A well-maintained park with ancient sculptures and a serene lake.
  • Evening: Enjoy a peaceful evening in Tezpur.
  • Overnight: Stay in Tezpur.

Day 5Tezpur - Dirang

Post breakfast will drive to Dirang through the lush green mountains of Arunachal
Pradesh. Dirang is a beautiful valley in the foothills of the Himalayan ranges. We will
visit the picturesque locations of Sangti Valley : Sangti Valley is a definite tourist spot if
you love nature dotted with pristine forests and meandering fast hill rivers and home
to a very interesting culture and tradition. Around this valley you can witness
interesting features like various fruit orchids and exotic birds. Dirang Dzong, Kiwi Fruit
Farms etc. The local market for shopping.

Day 6Dirang - Tawang

Post breakfast we will start our onward journey for Tawang. We will make 2 stops. We
will reach Tawang by evening.
* Nuranang Falls
* Sela Lake, situated at an elevation of 4170 m. It is a breath taking experience. The
lake remains frozen throughout the winter.
Sela pass is situated at about 13,700 feet above MSL and is known to be home to more
than 101 lakes. Each of these lakes are considered very religious by the Buddhist
community. One of these 101 lakes is the decently large Sela Lake that is located right
on the top of Sela Pass. Sela pass is also an important location on the India-China
border and hence one can find large Indian army camps and soldiers nearby.
Sela Pass is a mountain pass which you will need to cross before reaching Tawang.
This place remains mostly covered in snow and is usually too windy. A breath taking
place in Arunachal Pradesh is a high altitude mountain pass Se-La, with La denoting
Pass is a must visit attraction.

Day 7Tawang

Post breakfast we will be exploring Tawang. The major attractions for today are:
Tawang Monastery for eternal peace (The Monastery is the second biggest and
oldest in Asia and is known as the Tawang Ganden Namgyal Lhatse i.e., the celestial
paradise of divine site chosen by the horse was founded by Merag Lodroe Gyamtso in
the year 1680-81.),
The Giant Buddha Statue, Tawang War Memorial and the Tawang local market.
Explore the whole Tawang and try the ethnic local cuisines

Day 8Bumla Pass / Sungestar Lake

This day we have to start early to cover BUMLA PASS and Madhuri Lake.
Bum La Pass is just situated at near China Border and it was used by Dalai Lama to
get asylum in India from Tibet. While coming back from Bum La Pass we will visit
Madhuri Lake, which usually freezes in winter season .
After capturing breath taking views we will come back to Tawang.

Day 9Tawang - Bomdila

  • Morning (Return Journey): After breakfast, begin your drive back from Tawang to Bomdila (approx. 6-7 hours), once again traversing the Sela Pass.
  • Afternoon (Bomdila Exploration): Check into your hotel in Bomdila.
    • Visit the Bomdila Monastery, offering stunning panoramic views of the town and surrounding valleys.
    • Explore the Bomdila View Point for sweeping vistas.
  • Evening: Relax in Bomdila. Overnight stay in Bomdila.

Day 10Bomdila - Shergaon - Guwahati

  • Morning (Long Drive to Guwahati): After breakfast, embark on a significant drive from Bomdila back to Guwahati Airport (GAU) (approx. 8-9 hours). This will be a long travel day, passing through the plains of Assam.
  • Afternoon/Evening (Departure): Arrive at Guwahati Airport for your onward flight, carrying cherished memories of your Northeast India adventure.
